Operational Board Members

Dr Mark Gray - Middlesex University

Mark is Director of Knowledge Transfer and CPD and Middlesex University in North London. He has been involved in the business of professional development in higher education since the 1993. Mark has directed professional development for economists in the Civil Service, has helped establish a number of professional development programmes in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and until 2005 was Director of CPD at Oxford University's Department for Continuing Professional Development and a Fellow of Kellogg College. He has published widely on professional development themes in the UK and overseas and has a particular interest in the economics of higher level skill acquisition and development. He holds a PhD in Economics from Cambridge University.

Sharon Collins Williamson - University of Cambridge

Sharon is Executive Director of Cambridge Executive Education at the University of Cambridge Judge Business School. Executive Education is one of the key interfaces between the University and the business community, working across multiple sectors to develop and deliver management education and training programmes that bring together the many strengths of the University.  Prior to joining the University of Cambridge in 2006, Sharon worked in the Canadian higher education system, including as Director of Continuing Studies at The University of Western Ontario, one of Canada’s leading research universities.  

Professor Cliff Hardcastle - University of Teeside

Cliff is Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) at the University of Teesside.  Before that he was Assistant Principal (Knowledge Transfer And Commercial Development) and Dean of the School of the Built and Natural Environment at Glasgow Caledonian University. He has generated research and enterprise funding to a value of over £5 Million pounds.  He has over 100 publications and was formerly a member of the EPSRC Peer Review College. Cliff is currently Chair of the Universities for the North East Knowledge Transfer Committee, a member of the HEFCE Enterprise and Skills Board, the Design Centre North KTN Strategy Board and the RTC North Board.

Stephen Laurie - City University London 

Stephen is the Business Manager for the Continuing Professional Development department of The City Law School. Stephen is responsible for liaising with clients’ pre and post course delivery. He has extensive experience of managing successful training programmes as well as previously overseeing the smooth running of a busy training department for a private/public partnership operation in London. He has extensive experience of working with major businesses especially within the finance sector as well as having latterly spent time in the education sector in the UK and overseas.

Barry Lowe - Thames Valley University

Barry worked as an international journalist reporting from the Middle East, SE Asia and Eastern Europe for Australian news outlets before launching a career in designing and delivering training programmes for media practitioners, mainly in developing countries.  A recent focus has been training journalists in conflict prone societies to use their influence on public opinion to promote reconciliation. He combines his training activities with lecturing in journalism at Thames Valley University in London.

 
Professor Rodney McAdam - University of Ulster

Rodney is Professor in Innovation Management and Head of Department of Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Strategy at the Ulster Business School, University of Ulster. He has published extensively in the area of Innovation Management,  Knowledge and Business Improvement. He is a regular conference speaker at international conferences and supervises a number of PhD students in the area of Knowledge, Quality and organisational change management. He has extensive consulting experience in leading public and private sector organisations throughout the UK and Europe. Before joining the university he worked in the aerospace industry.

 

 

As a membership organisation, The Training Gateway's philosophy is that its members and stakeholders should influence the direction taken. The Operational and Strategic Boards that support the Training Gateway are central to this philosophy. The Operational Board provides a representative sample of our university and college members whose guidance on matters of the activities of the Training Gateway is invaluable. It is the role of the Operational Board to monitor progress and offer advice to ensure that The Training Gateway continues to meet its mission and primary aims and objectives.

Louise Clayton - Secretariat

Louise is the Training Gateway Manager. She is responsible for the operation of the brokerage, including stakeholder liaison, training service management and exploring new business opportunities. Louise has had seven years extensive experience in project management and training in both the Further Education and Higher Education sectors. In her previous role Louise supported the Construction and Built Environment sector for the West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network. Louise developed the sector across the region by working with industry to plan, design and deliver relevant couses e.g.Foundation Degree in Sustainable Construction.

 

Amanda Selvaratnam - Director

Following a scientific career in research and industry, Amanda moved into business intelligence with Glaxo SmithKline, prior to joining the University of York. At York Amanda established an IT training company to provide business-focussed training for SMEs. She is currently Head of Corporate Training at the university responsible for the strategic development of executive and professional training courses across all sectors. In 2007 Amanda established the UK Universities CPD Network which later became known as theTraining Gateway.

 

Andrew Campbell – Stevenson College Edinburgh

Andrew is the Contract Development Manager for SCE Enterprise and a key player in developing both UK and International activity for the college through business to business engagement, commercialisation and partnership projects.  Shaping his career in the private sector and holding a key management and board advisory positions within one of Scotland’s most successful Management Consultancy firms.  He has extensive experience in Business Finance & Administration, and more recently Business Development. He has secured and managed a number of high profile projects and has sound experience in managing business growth and efficiency projects.
