Developing Chinese Human Resources Provision

Manchester Metropolitan University

Members of the Human Resource Management & Organisational Behaviour Division at Manchester Metropolitan University Business School are involved in developing Chinese Managers through the Division’s Centre for Professional Personnel & Development (CPPD). The EU-China Managers Exchange and Training Programme (METP), launched in July 2006, is a four-year intergovernmental co-operation project between the EU and China in the field of international trade and is designed to enhance business expertise by developing European and Chinese human resources.

Designed as a comprehensive programme of development, training and internship, each programme starts with two weeks intercultural training in Beijing, followed by seven weeks  business and management training in Manchester, Paris, Turin and Brussels and finishing with an  internship of between 7 and 21 weeks in one or more organisations in the EU. Working with colleagues at European Management School (ESCP-EAP) based in Paris and Solvay Business School, the HRM team at MMUBS provide intensive, high level, general business and management training of the kind found typically in MBA programmes, and combine this with a series of industrial and cultural visits.

The training starts in Manchester where delegates cover all aspects of general management and HRM over a two week period. During that time they also visit Bentley Motors in Crewe, Salford’s Media City and Manchester United Football Club.

Between 2007 and 2009 two hundred Chinese managers will go through the programme.
