Trainer Biographies
Simon Bedford
Simon Bedford has enjoyed a successful career in export sales and marketing in the private sector. This has involved running a large export department and extensive travel overseas particularly in the Middle and Far East, Africa, and the USA.
Over 30 years he has developed new and existing business through direct sales or establishing local operations. He now works independently with private clients primarily on export development, market research, and runs his own export training courses.
Simon is on contract to UK Trade & Investment as a Regional International Trade Adviser. In this role he works with companies looking at an alternative to direct export including setting up a branch office, local distribution company licensing, Joint Venture, or wholly owned subsidiary. He specialises in advice on entering the new emerging markets, particularly India and Vietnam.
Simon is one of the key presenters on the UKTI Passport to Export course and he also runs export Masterclasses on subjects such as Managing Agents and Distributors and Managing International Risk Effectively.
Simon is an Associate Lecturer in International Business and Marketing at Hallam University, Sheffield.
Colin Russell BA(Hons) MIEx
Colin Russell is an independent international business advice and change management specialist. Since 2006, Colin has been delivering a contract for international trade support for UK Trade & Investment in the Yorkshire & Humber region. In this role, Colin works exclusively with companies in the professional, financial and business services sector and provides help, advice and support to enable them to develop successfully in international markets. He is also co-author of several practical guides published by UK Trade & Investment to assist companies in exporting services.
In his earlier career, Colin gained nearly 20 years experience in financial services with both Bradford & Bingley and Citibank in a range of operational, development and change related roles and has worked on a number of key international assignments. Prior to this, Colin worked in a number of planning and marketing roles for multinational companies, all with a strong international focus.
Colin is a Member of the Institute of Export, a graduate of the University of Salford in Manchester and is a fluent French and German speaker.
